UrbanFuel, a premium fitness and nutrition brand, partnered with Working Weekends to build a custom mobile app that transformed their digital ecosystem, integrating e-commerce, coaching, and loyalty into one seamless experience.

Within eight months of launch, the app drove a 310% increase in customer retention, generated $1.2M in new revenue, and became the brand’s highest-converting channel.


The challenge

UrbanFuel had built a strong online community through its website and social channels. But customer retention was lagging.

Their Shopify store handled transactions, and their content lived on Instagram — but there was no unified platform for engagement, upsells, or membership.

Users had to bounce between the website for orders, WhatsApp for coaching, and email for updates.

UrbanFuel needed an all-in-one mobile app, a digital storefront and fitness hub that could deliver personalized plans, exclusive drops, and community-driven engagement under one roof.

The solution

Working Weekends designed, developed, and launched UrbanFuel App, a hybrid native app that connected e-commerce, community, and personalization in one platform.

Product strategy & UX design

  • Conducted UX research with 200+ existing customers to understand habits and pain points.

  • Designed a user journey that mimicked the in-store experience: explore → educate → buy → reward.

  • Created interactive onboarding that customized meal plans, supplement stacks, and app recommendations based on user goals.

Tech stack & build

  • Built with React Native for cross-platform efficiency (iOS + Android).

  • Integrated directly with Shopify API, Stripe, and Firebase for real-time sync across products, subscriptions, and analytics.

  • Added push notification architecture for segmented engagement (new product drops, progress milestones, loyalty updates).

  • Backend handled 15,000+ concurrent users without latency, hosted on AWS for scalable performance.

E-commerce & loyalty integration

  • Integrated loyalty rewards (“Fuel Points”) across web and app, users earned for purchases, workouts logged, and referrals.

  • Added one-click checkout for members using Apple Pay and Google Pay.

  • Built upsell flows that increased bundle purchases by 37%.

Growth & engagement features

  • Live chat and in-app coaching module for personalized nutrition guidance.

  • Gamified progress tracking, badges, streaks, and achievement boards.

  • Weekly push campaigns tied to product launches and challenges, boosting DAUs by 260% over 90 days.


The results

After launch, UrbanFuel App became the brand’s core growth channel.

Performance metrics (first 8 months):

  • +310% customer retention (from 24% → 74%)

  • +1.2M USD in direct app revenue

  • +42% average order value (AOV)

  • -38% customer churn rate

  • 62% of all orders now occur through the app

The app’s success also reduced paid media dependency by 25%, as push notifications and in-app events replaced costly remarketing ads.
